Aston Villa set to complete summer transfer after six-figure fee ‘agreed’

Aston Villa will reportedly sign Hearts wonderkid Ewan Simpson when he turns 16 this summer, after agreeing a compensation fee with the Scottish club.

The Scottish Sun reports that the two clubs have agreed a fee of £250,000 for the teenager who has impressed for the Jambos' U18 side this season. He is reportedly set to complete his move to Villa Park after his 16th birthday in July.

Simpson’s performances for the youth teams at Hearts is said to have caught the eye of a number of clubs this summer. But it now seems that Villa have won the race for the youngster.

The deal is thought to be similar to that for former Dundee defender Kerr Smith, who arrived at Villa for a fee that could rise up to £2 million during the January transfer window. Having started his managerial career in Scotland with Rangers, Steven Gerrard was able to see first-hand some of the talent emerging north of the border.

Villa have also been named as favourites to snap up another youngster from Scotland this summer. Teenage Rangers striker Rory Wilson confirmed his departure from the Scottish giant this week, and now looks set to move to England with the player tipped to link up with former manager Gerrard at Villa Park .

Centre-back Calvin Bassey is another Rangers player who has been linked with following in Gerrard’s footsteps in swapping Ibrox for Villa Park this summer. Villa are keen to add to their defensive options this summer, with the former Leicester City youth player impressing with his performances in both the Scottish Premiership and Europa League this season.
