Aston Villa now have 'serious interest' in 43-goal striker at Villa Park

Aston Villa have “serious interest” in Ben Brereton Diaz, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

As a result, his current club Blackburn Rovers are looking at Queens Park Rangers’ Lyndon Dykes as a potential replacement, says Jones.

Football journalist Alan Nixon recently claimed on his Patreon page (via BirminghamLive) that Villa are one of many Premier League sides who are interested in signing Brereton Diaz, who could cost £15m.

Top-flight outfits looking at the 23-year-old striker comes as no surprise given how he performed last season.

In the 2021/22 Championship campaign, Brereton Diaz scored 22 goals in 37 outings to help Blackburn to an eighth-placed finish.

In total, the Chile international has found the back of the net on 43 occasions during his senior career.

Jones thinks Brereton Diaz could leave Ewood Park before tomorrow’s transfer deadline amid Villa’s interest in the forward.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Blackburn are starting to make plans for a Brereton Diaz replacement and that makes me wonder if he’s finally going to leave. They’ve got an eye on Lyndon Dykes and that might be due to Villa’s serious interest in their man.”

As a squad player, Brereton Diaz could perhaps be a decent option for Steven Gerrard at Villa Park.

“Brereton is very intelligent in his movement and found himself behind rival defenders several times,” Chile manager Eduardo Berizzo said after one of his performances earlier this summer. “He was not given the goal, but he is a footballer with many qualities.”

You would have to question, though, whether he would actually improve Villa. The former Nottingham Forest man is probably not better than Ollie Watkins or Danny Ings, who have both played in the Premier
