Aston Villa must learn from Birmingham City mistake as Chukwuemeka sent 'perfect' transfer message

Carney Chukwuemeka is yet to commit his future to Aston Villa and reports suggest the teenage midfielder is of interest to clubs in the Premier League and on the continent.

Chukwuemeka only turned 18 last October and is the third youngster player to make a Premier League appearance this season. Having started his first top-flight game in August, in the 1-1 draw against Brentford at Villa Park, he has made a further eight appearances for the club, all of which have come under Steven Gerrard.

The Liverpool legend has retained that Chukwuemeka is at a brilliant place to continue his development at Villa, suggesting the club have "done all the can" to tie him down to a new deal. He signed signed his first professional contract back in October 2020 but hasn't put pen to paper on an improved one since.

Reports now suggest clubs are monitoring the situation, including Arsenal and German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Der Westen, via Sport Witness, report that Dortmund are 'eyeing' a potential transfer for Chukwuemeka but they will have competition from Bayern for the player's signature.

Dortmund have developed a reputation for signing young talent from other countries and developing them into top players with Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham two stand-out examples. You would suspect any potential deal would include a hefty sell-on clause, which could reward Villa in the event of a big-money future sale.

That is something Birmingham City reportedly used to benefit them when they sold Bellingham to Dortmund in 2020. Though, according to Sport 1 podcast Die Dortmund-Woche, via Sport Witness, Blues will be due only five per cent of the profit a future sale could make.
