Aston Villa linked with shock PSG swoop as Georginio Wijnaldum transfer stance revealed

Aston Villa are reportedly 'interested' in bringing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum back to the Premier League this summer.

The Netherlands international was a key part of the Premier League and Champions League-winning team at Liverpool in recent seasons but left Anfield last summer on a free transfer after failing to agree on a contract extension with Jurgen Klopp 's side.

Since arriving in the French capital, the 31-year-old has made just 16 starts across all competitions and was an unused substitute in PSG's Champions League round of 16 tie against Real Madrid last week.

A host of English clubs as well as others on the continent are believed to have an interest in Wijnaldum.

According to reports in Spanish publication Fichajes (via BBC Sport ) fellow Champions League side Atletico Madrid, who drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Wednesday night, are 'keen' in the player.

They also add that Villa as well as Newcastle United and West Ham United are 'also interested'.

Wijnaldum has already spoken of his discontent at his lack of regular game time since arriving in Paris, which would encourage any suitor.

“I can’t say I’m completely happy, because the situation is not what I wanted,” he told NOS earlier this season. “That’s football and I’ll have to learn to deal with that. I’m a fighter.

“I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around. I have played a lot in recent years, was always fit and also did very well. This is something different and that takes getting used to. I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.”
