Steven Gerrard 'furious' with Aston Villa players as Gary Neville spots telling reaction
Manchester United legend Gary Neville claims Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard would have been "furious" with his team's performance against Newcastle United at the weekend.
Villa disappointed at St. James' Park as they lost 1-0 to Eddie Howe's relegation-threatened side.
Kieran Trippier scored the only goal of the game in the first half as his free kick took a deflection off Emi Buendia and wrong-footed Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez to fire the hosts into a lead.
Ollie Watkins thought he had restored parity for Villa in the second half but his tap-in was ruled out for offside.
Gerrard's men failed to conjure up any more goal scoring opportunities and left Tyneside empty-handed.
And Neville said Gerrard wouldn't have been best pleased with his players after noticing his frustration in the dugout.
"He slumps back in his chair, Steven Gerrard , I think he’ll be furious with his team," said Neville on Sky Sports.
"He’ll be happy with them for half an hour, and I think he’ll be disappointed in this last 15 minutes for how they’ve approached this game.
"They’ve lost their composure in their play."
