Aston Villa join long list of suitors for out-of-contract Ligue 1 midfielder

Aston Villa are interested in signing Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara in the summer, according to reports.

The 22-year-old came through the youth ranks at the French club and made his professional debut in December 2016 at the age of 17.

Marseille are in danger of losing the defensive midfielder on a free transfer in the summer with his contract expiring in June.

Kamara has been linked with numerous teams, including Premier League duo Newcastle and Manchester United.

According to But! Football Club (via The Hard Tackle), Aston Villa are now ‘among the clubs scouting’ the Marseille midfielder.

The report states that Villa have been ‘intensely scouting’ Kamara as they eye up a potential summer move.

He has made over 150 appearances for the Marseille first team and has been a mainstay in Jorge Sampaoli’s starting XI this term.

Elsewhere, Steven Gerrard has admitted his Aston Villa side must rediscover their killer instinct after a poor run of results.

Villa have been beaten by relegation candidates Watford and Newcastle in their last two fixtures and were held to a 3-3 draw by struggling Leeds before that.

The run comes as a blip after a good start under Steven Gerrard, who took over from Dean Smith in December.

Speaking ahead of their clash with Brighton on Saturday, Gerrard said: “I think we came in and had a really positive start, we have to admit that our form of late needs improving, and a good win here is the medicine we all need right now.
