Aston Villa injury updates on Buendia, Coutinho & Bailey before Newcastle United

Aston Villa head to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon hoping to go one better than the point they were made to settle for in their meeting with Leeds United in the week.

Villa, who had been 3-1 up thanks to Jacob Ramsey and Philippe Coutinho, were pegged back in the second half and ended the game with ten men after Ezri Konsa’s sending off.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are going comparably well; they’d only won a single game all season until a couple of weeks ago, but since Eddie Howe had guided them to successive victories over Leeds United and Everton.

They’re likely to be without Kieran Trippier, though, after he went off injured in the week.

Here is the latest from Villa's own treatment room.

: Thigh

: Feb 13 (vs Newcastle United)

"We've got Bailey who's extremely close now."

Hip

Watford (H) - Saturday 19 February

"Emi Buendia is a big doubt for Newcastle. He had a whack on his hip, he's a big doubt for the weekend but we'll see how the next 24 to 48 hours go."

: Knee

: April

: We're disappointed not to have Nakamba available. He was outstanding for us in the early weeks of our arrival.

"We're giving him all of the support he needs now to try and make a safe and good recovery from that injury."

Hamstring

March

"Unfortunately, we're going to lose Berto for a few weeks. He's got a hamstring injury off the back of the Afcon which I'm frustrated about."

Cramp

Newcastle - 13 February

“Phil’s fine. He got a bit of cramp in a few different areas and he tired a lot – he gave a lot to the game. In terms of being available for Newcastle, I’m sure he’ll be fine with a couple of recovery days."
