Aston Villa have eyes set on Premier League midfielder despite securing Kamara signing

Aston Villa are still interested in signing Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma after confirming the capture of Boubacar Kamara, according to reports.

Kamara will join the Premier League side on a free transfer when his Marseille contract expires next month.

Glasses half empty: Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal all failed this season

Steven Gerrard is planning for his maiden summer transfer window at Villa Park and has already secured two deals after also confirming the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho.

The Aston Villa head coach also has John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba and Jacob Ramsey available to him in the centre of midfield.

Despite the signing of Kamara, the Villans remain interested in Brighton defensive midfielder Bissouma, according to 90min.

The report states that talks have been ‘ongoing for over a year’ with the Seagulls willing to let the Mali international leave for around £30m.

Yves Bissouma was the only player to make 100+ tackles and 50+ interceptions in the Premier League this season:

Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham are also said to be interested, with Bissouma ‘telling Brighton earlier this year’ that he is ready to move on from Albion.

Villa have also been linked with Leeds United and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Speaking earlier this month, Paul Merson said that a move to Villa Park would be “unbelievable” for Phillips.

“I don’t think Phillips is too good for Aston Villa, who have been linked with him recently,” Merson said. “It’s a massive football club and he would be playing under one of the greatest English footballers of our generation in Gerrard.
