Aston Villa: Gerrard ‘will be under pressure’ if he fails to beat Forest

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard ‘will be under pressure’ if his side fails to beat Nottingham Forest on Monday night, with Steve Cooper’s men currently bottom of the Premier League, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens handed Gerrard more than £60 million to bolster his squad in the summer transfer window but results have failed to reflect that expenditure so far.

Gerrard recently gathered his players together for a team meeting in the wake of a ‘frustrating’ start to the Premier League season.

With eight matches played in the Premier League, Villa sit in 14th place but with just two points separating them from the relegation zone.

The Liverpool legend admitted in his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s clash with Forest that he is ‘not out of the woods’ in terms of his job being at risk, despite being unbeaten in three matches.

It is understood that Villa have sounded out the possibility of replacing Gerrard with either Mauricio Pochettino or Unai Emery if NSWE were to take action.

According to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Southampton boss would be open to taking on the position with the West Midlands outfit.

Jones believes that the pressure will ramp up further on Gerrard if his side fail to beat Forest at the start of next week.

The journalist adds that the only way to win around unconvinced members of the Villa Park crowd is with results.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “The only way he’s going to win over these sections of fans is with results and certainly with wins over teams like Forest, who they would expect to be beating in this division. If they did lose to Forest, I think that Gerrard would be under pressure.”
