Aston Villa fans make ‘good service’ point as Ollie Watkins impresses for England

Ollie Watkins scored his second England goal as Gareth Southgate’s side cruised to a 3-0 victory over 10-man Ivory Coast.

The Aston Villa striker has handed a starting berth for the friendly at Wembley, and took his opportunity with both hands, scoring one and having a hand in another.

Watkins opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, tapping home Raheem Sterling’s cross after great movement in the box. The visitors were reduced to 10 men 10 minutes later when former Tottenham man Serge Aurier was sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

Then, on the stroke of half-time, Watkins was involved in the build-up before Sterling slid home a first-time cut-back from Jack Grealish. In World Cup year, it was a perfect audition for Watkins, who was replaced by Harry Kane on 62. Villa teammate Tyrone Mings, a second-half substitute, headed home the third goal with the last action of the game.
