Aston Villa could beat Man United and Barcelona to transfer after sending 'best offer'

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in an ambitious swoop for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie as the midfielder's contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

A whole host of Premier League sides, including Arsenal and Manchester United are said to be monitoring the situation, while top teams on the continent are also interested.

Barcelona are currently in pole position to snap up the 25-year-old Serie A star, but Villa have reportedly offered appealing terms to Kessie.

Calciomercato claim that Villa have sent Kessie an "interesting" offer, but in an update reported by Il Milanista, Kessie "prefers" a switch to Barcelona this summer.

Though, the report adds that Villa have sent the "best offer" to the midfielder, while he was said to be "unconvinced" by offers made by Premier League clubs previously, as Man United, Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with moves.

Kessie has made 21 appearances for AC Milan this season and has scored five goals. He also played five of their six Champions League group stage games, missing an away trip to Porto through suspension having been sent off in the defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two.

Steven Gerrard wants to bolster his midfield options this summer, with Yves Bissouma and Marseille star Boubacar Kamara heavily linked.

Villa saw a bid in the region on £35million turned down by Brighton for Bissouma in January and could revisit the situation at the end of the season when he has 12 months left on his deal.
