Asda trialling major change in stores across UK that will affect thousands of workers

Asda is trialling a major change at 12 of its stores across the UK which will affect members of staff who work there.

The retailer has trying out a new uniform for workers - in what is the retailer’s biggest change to its uniform in more than 12 years.

The six-week trial will see over 2,600 Asda staff across the selected stores sporting fresh new look with ten different types for the different roles.

Workers trying out the new look will provide detailed feedback on every aspect of the uniform. This feedback will then inform the official new uniform for all Asda workers - which the retailer hopes to launch in 2026.

Hayley Tatum MBE, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer at Asda, commented: “We’re excited to launch this uniform trial – our first major redesign in over a decade. We’ve put our colleagues at the heart of this trial, enlisting their support to ensure the uniform not only meets their needs, but that they are proud to wear it.

"We’re looking forward to hearing their thoughts in the coming weeks and using this insight to shape the final version of the uniform.”

Different styles and choices of uniforms will be available in different departments. Asda said it has continued to invest in its workforce throughout 2024, including investing £150m in its retail pay. The retailer also recently announced it had partnered with financial benefits company Wagestream.
