As it happened | Sundowns slice through Chiefs to seal Carling Knockout semi-final berth

Mamelodi Sundowns delivered a commanding 4-0 performance against rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final on Saturday, overwhelming the Glamour Boys in front of a packed FNB Stadium.

Things unraveled quickly when Lucas Ribeiro Costa earned a penalty, and Iqraam Rayners calmly slotted it in.

Just seven minutes later, Rayners struck again, sending waves of shock through the stadium. The tension ignited three pitch invaders in quick succession, as frustrated fans began hurling objects onto the field.

At one point, an Amakhosi supporter attempted to confront Fiacre Ntwari, prompting a massive security response, with the South African Police Service reinforcing the perimeter to prevent further disturbances.

Sundowns continued to capitalise on Chiefs' misfortunes. Peter Shalulile added a third before half-time, and matters only worsened in the second half when Chiefs’ stand-in captain, Inacio Miguel, saw red after a second yellow card.

Shortly after, Khuliso Mudau netted the fourth, gliding past an advancing Ntwari after a sharp Sundowns build-up.

From there, it was smooth sailing for Sundowns, while Chiefs' long trophy drought extended, leaving Amakhosi fans yearning for an end to their silverware dry spell.
