As it happened | Carling Knockout semi-final: Richards Bay 0-1 Magesi FC

Magesi FC made headlines on Saturday afternoon by securing a narrow 1-0 victory over 10-man Richards Bay at King Zwelithini Stadium, earning a spot in the Carling Knockout Cup final for the first time in the club's history.

The semifinal began with Richards Bay on the front foot, creating the first clear chance in the 15th minute when Yanela Mbuthuma found himself with a golden opportunity, but his shot was expertly saved by Magesi’s star goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze.

Richards Bay continued to press, with Tlakusani Mthethwa testing Chipezeze from distance in the 23rd minute, but the Zimbabwean shot-stopper kept his composure.

Magesi seized the momentum shortly after, breaking the deadlock in the 27th minute. Tshepo Mashigo capitalised on a defensive lapse, weaving past the backline and calmly slotting the ball past Richards Bay’s goalkeeper Otieno to give Magesi a crucial 1-0 lead.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 83rd minute when Richards Bay’s Tlakusani Mthethwa was shown a second yellow card for a reckless challenge, leaving his team to finish the match with ten men.

This historic win sees Magesi FC advance to their first-ever topflight cup final, capping off a fairytale run that has seen them defy the odds by defeating seasoned opponents like Orlando Pirates and TS Galaxy.

The result marks a significant achievement for the club, as they now prepare for a chance to lift their first major trophy in South African football.

Magesi will now face either Mamelodi Sundowns or Marumo Gallants, who square off on Sunday in the other semi-final.
