As it happened | Carling Knockout Cup: Marumo Gallants FC 0-2 Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns secured their spot in the Carling Knockout final with a clinical 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at a rain-soaked Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.
After a goalless first half in challenging wet conditions, Sundowns were handed a golden opportunity in the 50th minute when Marvin Sikhosana was penalised for a clear handball inside the box.
Lucas Ribeiro confidently converted the resulting penalty with a cheeky panenka, sending goalkeeper Washington Arubi the wrong way.
Holding a narrow lead, Sundowns expertly slowed the tempo in the closing stages to maintain control. As the clock ticked towards full time, Neo Maema sealed the win, finishing off a swift attacking move with a composed strike.
This victory sets up an intriguing final clash against Magesi FC, who reached their first major cup final after a narrow 1-0 win over Richards Bay.
