Arsenal youngster Mazeed Ogungbo set for loan spell after Gunners make transfer decision

Mazeed Ogungbo will be available to head out on loan this summer, understands.

The 19-year-old signed his first professional contract with Arsenal last year and went on to become a regular for Kevin Betsy's under-23 side, making 19 Premier League 2 appearances, and featuring in all but one of the games in the run to the Papa John's Trophy semi-finals. His appearances caught the eye of Mikel Arteta who went on to include him in the first team squad for Premier League matches against Crystal Palace and Southampton. He was also involved as the Gunners beat Brentford B 4-1 in a behind closed doors friendly at London Colney in March.

Having had a good season at Arsenal though, the Republic of Ireland under-19 international is now keen to test himself at first team level. understands that he has been placed on the club's loan list and is attracting interest from several clubs in both League One and League Two.

Arsenal confirm first summer transfer as Marquinhos joins from Sao Paulo

Ogungbo is first and foremost a left back or left wing back having started his career as an attacking winger and possesses the pace and physicality to make the step up to the men's game. However, he also demonstrated his versatility last season, playing as the left-sided centre-back in the back three that Betsy deployed for much of the under-23s campaign.

The situation around the Arsenal under-23s is currently a little uncertain, with Betsy having left to join League One side Crawley Town as their first team manager last week. Betsy took under-18s coach Dan Micciche with him to be his assistant, meaning that academy director Per Mertesacker now has the task of appointing the right person in two crucial positions this summer.
