"Arsenal working on..": Ornstein drops big transfer update, supporters will be buzzing - opinion

Arsenal have now turned their attention towards Oleksandr Zinchenko this week…

The Gunners are set to make a move for another Manchester City star after missing out on Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, who appears set to join Manchester United instead.

That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who revealed the change in plans to supporters on Twitter.

“EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal working on deal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Man City,” he said.

“Clubs in talks, #MCFC open to sale if valuation met. #AFC would also need to agree [on] personal terms. Versatile 25yo [is] now [a] priority for Arteta after missing [out on] Martinez.”

It remains to be seen exactly how much it would cost to lure him from the Eithad Stadium, though CIES Football Observatory currently value him in the region of £26m.

Zinchenko would be an ideal alternative to Martinez as he too is a hugely versatile player that can play in multiple positions.

The Ukraine international has often found himself at left-back under Pep Guardiola, despite starting his career out in central midfield. He has also played attacking midfield and on the right flank, as per Transfermarkt.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has worked with the 25-year-old during his time as assistant manager at Man City, so there would be little time needed to settle into life in north London.

Zinchenko would also bring bags of trophy-winning experience, having clinched four Premier League and League Cup titles, as well as one FA Cup. The Ukraine star also played in the Champions League final back in 2021.
