Arsenal: Vivianne Miedema with 'best pass ever' to set up equaliser against Man United

Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema has been praised for a “world-class” and “elite” pass which set up Stina Blackstenius for an equaliser against Manchester United.

In a fiercely-contested match at the top of the Women’s Super League this afternoon, Arsenal drew 1-1 with Manchester United.

Alessio Russo gave the Red Devils the lead in the 10th minute, heading home a Katie Zelem corner.

Things went from bad to worse for Arsenal in the second half, with Katie McCabe sent off in the 75th minute for a second yellow card offence.

Just four minutes later, however, Blackstenius scored an equaliser for the Gunners. She was set through into a one on one situation with Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps and coolly slotted home.

The pass came from Miedema, who had dropped down into a deeper position after fellow striker Blackstenius was brought on as a substitute.

Miedema received the ball only metres from her own penalty box, looked up, and delivered a defence splitting pass into the feet of her teammate.

The pass received widespread praise on social media, with Arsenal defender Leah Williamson among those applauding Miedema.

Williamson, normally a staple in the Arsenal side, was sitting on the sidelines for the match with a slight injury.

“This is the absolute best pass I’ve ever witnessed live, potentially in my whole life,” she wrote on Twitter.

Another social media user wrote: “That’s an absolute joke of a pass”, while someone else commented: “There’s different gravy and then there’s this”.

The pass was also described as “brilliant”, “unreal” and “elite”, while Miedema was compared to Dennis Bergkamp, who starred for Arsenal from 1995 to 2006.
