Arsenal: South American star could become Tielemans alternative at Emirates

Arsenal could move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo if they fail to land Youri Tielemans, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Gunners were widely expected to bolster their engine room options this summer, but with deadline day on the horizon, they are yet to do so.

GOAL reported back in June that Arsenal had cooled their pursuit of Tielemans as they focussed their attention on bringing in other targets such as Gabriel Jesus.

Prior to that, the Belgium international, who only has 12 months remaining on his contract with Leicester City, had been tipped to land at the Emirates Stadium in a cut-price deal.

However, Football.London have recently stated that Arsenal are prepared to wait until the Tielemans becomes a free agent next summer as the Foxes are demanding £32 million for his services.

That has opened up the possibility of Mikel Arteta turning his attention to alternative targets, and the Sunday Mirror (via The Express) claim the north London outfit are one of several sides contemplating a move for Caicedo.

The likes of Manchester United, West Ham, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus are also said to be monitoring the 20-year-old’s situation.

It’s been a productive window for Arsenal, who have welcomed the likes of Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko to the club.

And Jones believes that if Arteta does press ahead with his plans to improve his midfield, he expects a bid to go in for Tielemans, although he has also refused to ‘rule out’ a move for Caicedo.

He told GiveMeSport: “If they go for it, I still expect a bid for Tielemans to go in. And on the back of that, if they don’t have any success with it, I wouldn’t totally rule him out, Caicedo.”
