Arsenal planning to sign winger from next week at the Emirates
Arsenal are prepared to wait until the season is underway before moving to sign a winger, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Mikel Arteta has proved successful in welcoming five new players on board this summer ahead of the Gunners’ opener at Crystal Palace on Friday, but the Spaniard has been unable to strengthen his wide department.
Having pushed hard to sign Raphinha back in June, only to lose out to Barcelona, it quickly became apparent that a winger was one of Arteta’s priorities this window.
Arsenal currently have four wide men in their squad, but Nicolas Pepe has expressed his desire to leave, while Emile Smith Rowe has struggled with injuries for parts of 2022.
Therefore, with the north Londoners back in Europe following their fifth place finish, Arteta is clearly looking to bolster his squad ahead of what could prove a gruelling campaign.
But with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, who’ve both impressed in pre-season, in line to start the season at Selhurst Park, Jones doesn’t think that Arsenal are in a mad rush to bring in a winger.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I spoke to someone, and because this team is so set for the first game of the season, they’re not worried about signing a winger this week, it’s not important. They think other situations will open up once the season begins.”
Beyond Raphinha, there haven’t been many names being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, although PSV ace Cody Gakpo and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen are two that have been mentioned.
According to Football.London, the Gunners are interested in the Dutchman, who’s caught the eye following his exploits last season, which saw him score 21 goals and add 15 assists across all competitions.
