Arsenal legend shocked at Steve Bruce arrival at West Brom after Newcastle 'stress'
Former Arsenal invincible Martin Keown has questioned Steve Bruce's decision to jump straight back into management following his sacking from Newcastle United in October.
Bruce was unveiled to the media this afternoon at the Hawthorns after he was named as the successor to Valerien Ismael, who was relieved of his duties at West Brom after a poor run of form.
West Brom are currently eight points off the automatic promotion places and sit in sixth position on the Championship table.
New manager Bruce is a specialist at getting clubs up to the Premier League and has won four promotions in his managerial career.
Yet, Arsenal legend Known has questioned whether Bruce is prepared to take on the challenge after the 'stress' caused to him during his stint at Newcastle.
Keown said on : "I’m very surprised. I thought he was going to retire now from football management. I thought the stress that he put his family through with the Newcastle situation… took a lot out of him.
"He wants another challenge. He can’t turn his back on it. Football is addictive. I’m not sure this is the right thing for him to do.
"I looked at Chris Wilder… I don’t know why they didn’t pick him as the manager in the summer. He seemed to be the obvious candidate."
