Arsenal legend Lee Dixon and Piers Morgan in Twitter row over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Lee Dixon and Piers Morgan have engaged in a Twitter spat over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the former Arsenal striker scored his 10th goal for Barcelona.
Mikel Arteta stripped Aubameyang of the captain’s armband at the north London club in December due to a disciplinary breach.
The 32-year-old ended up leaving the Gunners in the January transfer window and made the move to Camp Nou on a free transfer.
Aubameyang has hit the ground running at the Catalan club, netting for the 10th time in 14 games during Barcelona’s 3-2 win over Levante on Sunday.
In an exchange on Twitter, Dixon and Morgan strongly disagreed over the circumstances of the centre-forward’s exit and the decision to let him leave Arsenal.
Morgan’s initial post read: ‘BREAKING: Aubameyang scores again for Barcelona. His 10th goal in 14 games since Arsenal gave him away for free. Now officially one of the worst decisions in managerial history. @Auba @m8arteta.’
To which Dixon retorted: ‘Piers. Really. You are really making yourself look rather silly. Enough. Get over it. He was disruptive. Club always bigger. You know that. @Arsenal.’
Morgan clearly disagreed with Dixon’s reply, saying: ‘I don’t agree. We lost a world class striker because our manager mis-managed him. Quite clear from his form at Barca, where Xavi loves him, that he’s still a magnificent player. And we’re left with Lacazette who hasn’t scored this year. Terrible decision that will cost us Top4.’
Afterwards, Dixon accused Morgan of having an ‘agenda’ and advised him to ‘ease off and support’.
‘Some players fit others don’t. Opinions is where it’s at. Our coach decided he didn’t fit. We all have our faves. He quite clearly is yours. Banging the Aub drum suits who? You and your agenda which
