Arsenal: Fabrizio Romano shares midfield transfer update at the Emirates

Arsenal could move for a cheaper midfield option on transfer deadline day, with the Gunners unwilling to pay Leicester City’s asking price for Youri Tielemans, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Mikel Arteta has overseen a busy summer of business at the Emirates but is now running out of time to strengthen ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Tielemans has been a long-term target of Arsenal, with the Telegraph reporting back in May that the Foxes could sell their star for as little as £25 million.

The Belgium international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the King Power and Arteta was pushing for Edu to bring him in.

But despite this, MailOnline report that Leicester are yet to receive an offer for Tielemans this summer, with Newcastle now entering the race to land his services.

Meanwhile, Shaktar Donetsk midfielder Mykhaylo Mudryk is understood to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal and the Gunners are hoping to strike a £21 million deal for the 21-year-old.

Arsenal’s hunt for a new midfielder may well be intensified after Mohamed Elneny suffered a ‘significant’ injury against Fulham on Saturday.

Romano understands that Tielemans has been a long-term target for the Gunners but that the asking price of Leicester has put them off.

The journalist speculates that they could well move for a cheaper option before the 11pm deadline tonight.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “We know that they have had Tielemans on the list for a long time but they never wanted to pay £35 or £40 million for a player who’s out of contract in a few months. Let’s see if they will go for some cheaper options on the market.”
