Arsenal could now 'announce' first signing very soon at the Emirates

Arsenal could announce the signing of Sao Paulo youngster Marquinhos in the “next couple of days”, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The 19-year-old has been strongly linked with the Gunners in recent days and Taylor reckons the deal is close to being officially completed.

With Arsenal on the verge of missing out on the Champions League following their dismal 2-0 defeat at Newcastle on Monday, Mikel Arteta is hoping to strengthen his squad after failing to sign anyone in January.

The Gunners enjoyed a productive summer 12 months ago, bringing in the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, and the Spaniard is clearly looking to get his business quickly done this time around.

According to Football.London, the north London outfit have already moved to make their first addition of the upcoming window, with winger Marquinhos agreeing a £3m switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Marquinhos, capped at Under-17 level by Brazil, has made 40 appearances in total for Sao Paulo, scoring four goals, while laying on three assists for his teammates.

Arsenal could offload Nicolas Pepe this summer, which might allow the teenager to get his opportunity once he links up with Arteta’s side.

And although the summer transfer window doesn’t open until next month, Taylor reckons that Marquinhos could be announced as a Gunners player in the near-future.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Marquinhos will happen, that’s pretty much done, it’s just a case of the fact that he needs to sort a work permit.

“From my information, it was that Arsenal were going to announce that in the coming weeks, it could even be the next couple of days, just like the agreement.”
