Arsenal could find Raphinha alternative in "very exciting" 42-goal winger - journalist
Arsenal target Cody Gakpo would “fit the bill” for Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Gunners were linked with the PSV Eindhoven winger earlier this year and could revive their interest after Chelsea moved ahead of them in the race for Raphinha.
Arteta has already added three players to his squad in the shape of Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira, but he looks set to fall short in trying to make Raphinha his fourth summer addition.
Chelsea have agreed a £55m fee with the Leeds ace, meaning Arsenal might need to move on to other targets.
According to Football.London, the Gunners have been interested in Gakpo since April, although the Netherlands international is wanted by Tottenham and Leeds.
Gakpo flourished for PSV last season, scoring 21 goals across all competitions, which takes his overall tally for the club to 42, while also laying on 15 assists for his teammates.
He might be just 23-years-old, but Gakpo has already racked up more than 134 appearances for the Dutch giants and O’Rourke reckons that his age and potential could make him an ideal fit for Arteta.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure they have other players on their list in that position if they can’t get Raphinha.
“Gakpo, who’s had a very good season for PSV, looks a very exciting talent, and he would certainly fit the bill for the type of profile that Arteta is looking at.”
