Arsenal, Chelsea in contact with Napoli for Osimhen

Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea are still in contact with Napoli for a possible summer deal to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen appears to be in a limbo over which club he will play for during the 2024/25 season following the decision of Paris Saint-Germain to stop their move for him.

Despite penning a contract extension at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in December, it is an open secret that the Napoli forward will move elsewhere during the summer transfer window.

However, possessing a release clause of £109.5m, the race for the Nigerian international’s signature could be drawn out after PSG pulled out of the deal as they were not ready to spend big money on him.

According to Calcio Mercato, Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis has no interest in parting ways with Osimhen for anything below his release clause, leaving the 25-year-old in limbo.

As a result, an impasse has been reached, leaving the realistic prospect of a proposed transfer being scrapped with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United coming back to the table.

Sky Sports transfer reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, said last week that Arsenal could soon table an offer to sign Osimhen for manager, Mikel Arteta.

However, according to Football Italia, Monday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport detailed how Arsenal and Chelsea have both been in contact with Napoli in recent days to open a new round of talks for Osimhen.

“The Gunners are interested in a deal but are currently focused on snapping up Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres,” Football Italia wrote.
