Arsenal celebrations proved something to Wolves star after defeat

Ruben Neves felt the way Arsenal celebrated their win at Molineux proves that Wolves are now on par with the likes of the Gunners.

Gabriel scored the only goal with a scrappy first-half effort as the Gunners triumphed 1-0 in the clash between two sides battling to secure European football.

Wolves pressed for an equaliser but despite Gabriel Martinelli’s red card on 69 minutes they couldn’t find one.

The result lifted the Gunners five points clear of Wolves in eighth and to within one point of West Ham in the final Champions League spot.

Despite the defeat, Neves said Wolves could draw a crumb of comfort from the Gunners’ wild celebrations at the final whistle.

"We saw the way they celebrated the win and that shows the level we are,” he said, reported the BBC.

“I didn't see Arsenal celebrating like this in the past 10 years - it was like they won the league."

On those celebrations, Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette explained: “It means a lot because we really wanted to win this game.

“It was stressful in this type of game but that is football. I’m really proud, everyone at the back did their job.”

The game also highlighted Wolves’ problems in front of goal.

Bruno Lage’s side have scored just 19 goals in 22 Premier League game this season and Neves admitted: "We did well but we are struggling to score goals and conceding a lot on set-pieces.

"With their goal there is some doubt about whether it was a foul or not but that's football. We are used to these decisions.

"We need to improve a lot on scoring goals because we are creating chances but we're not good enough in that part of the game.”
