Arsenal: Beth Mead joins fellow star Bukayo Saka as England Player of the Year

Beth Mead has been named England Women’s Player of the Year after a brilliant performance at Euro 2022.

The 27-year-old was selected by fans in a vote on social media as the stand-out player in an historic 12 months for the Lionesses.

Arsenal teammate Leah Williamson and Barcelona star Keira Walsh finished second and third respectively.

Mead enjoyed a spectacular year with the Lionesses, scoring 20 times in 19 matches to break Jimmy Greaves’s long-standing record for the most goals in one season for England.

She hit the back of the net six times during Euro 2022, helping England to its first major football title since 1966.

As a result of her performances, Mead won the Euro 2022 Golden Boot and was named the Player of the Tournament.

She has also since been nominated for the UEFA Player of the Year and the Ballon D’Or Feminin.

Mead was surprised with the news that she was England Women’s Player of the Year by teammates Millie Bright and Rachel Daly.

The Lionesses are currently training for their highly-anticipated match against the US, which is set to take place at a sold-out Wembley tomorrow.
