Arsenal: Arteta 'needs to start making signings quickly' at the Emirates

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta needs to ‘start making signings pretty quickly’ if he wants to ensure next season is a success at the Emirates Stadium, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Gunners missed out on Champions League qualification and will have to settle for Europa League football during the 2022/23 campaign after finishing fifth in the Premier League standings.

It is understood that Arsenal’s summer priority is to bring in a new centre forward and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is at the top of Arteta’s shortlist.

Arsenal have held talks over a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, with his agent flying into London for a meeting with technical director Edu last week.

Away from the forward line, Arteta is pushing the hierarchy to make a £25million bid for Leicester City central midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Tielemans is set to enter the final 12 months of his £120,000-per-week contract at the King Power Stadium, potentially boosting Arsenal’s chances of striking a summer deal.

The north Londoners are also on the verge of signing teenage Sao Paulo star Marquinhos for £3million.

Jones believes Arsenal boss Arteta needs to improve his options and should look to secure reinforcements sooner rather than later.
