Arsenal: Arteta has 'convinced' £100k-a-week star to be at the Emirates

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has been promised regular first-team opportunities by Mikel Arteta next season, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The 22-year-old was on course to leave the Emirates Stadium following the expiration of his contract later this month, but an end-of-season purple patch looks set to see him sign a new long-term deal.

It’s been a remarkable couple of months for the frontman, who’s gone from being completely out of the picture and not even being considered for selection, to the man the Gunners were pinning their top four hopes on.

The departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and poor form of Alexandre Lacazette played a major part in Nketiah coming into the fold, but he repaid Arteta’s faith by scoring five goals in seven starts last term.

Despite Nketiah’s new deal, the Gunners are on the verge of signing Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, whose arrival will raise doubts over how much game-time the Englishman will get next season.

But Sheth believes Arteta has assured the striker he’ll get his chances to showcase his talent.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Eddie Nketiah looked like he was trying to leave, until very recently when I think Mikel Arteta has convinced him he will be getting the first-team opportunities that he wants, so he will be staying.”
