Arne Engels whirlwind Celtic week ends with Kevin de Bruyne seal of approval on Belgium debut

Kevin de Bruyne gave Arne Engel his seal of approval after making his Belgium debut.

Celtic's record signing has had some week, joining the Hoops for £11million late on deadline day from Augsburg, then coming off the bench for his first appearance during their 3-0 win over Rangers less than two days later. And the whirlwind continued as Engels jetted out to join up with Domenico Tedesco's Red Devils squad, making his debut as a second half sub in a 3-1 win over Israel.

It wasn't quite the red hot cauldron of Celtic Park on Old Firm derby day, however. The Nations League clash was played behind closed doors in Budapest, Hungary. The Belgian FA ruled out playing in Brussels due to security fears, while other Belgian cities refused to host the game, with Israel's bombing of Gaza amid the ongoing conflict sparking mass protests across the country.

Engels made his first top team appearance for his country alongside Julien Duranville. And the duo earned praise from Belgium talisman and skipper De Bruyne, who picked them out for attention during his post-match interview.

He said: "Julien wasn't afraid to show his talents, and that's already very positive what he showed tonight. And Arne (Engels) also made a very good substitution."
