Arne Engels vents '50/50' Celtic penalty frustration as he reveals what he REALLY thought about Bayern spot kick denial
Arne Engels has urged Celtic fans to have a bawl in Bavaria next week and roar their side to a famous win.
The Hoops ace was blown away by the electric Champions League atmosphere in Wednesday’s 2-1 play-off first leg defeat to Bayern Munich. And he’s convinced the fans can play their part as they look to defy the odds and turn around the tie.
Celtic supporters feared being shut out of the Allianz Arena after the smoke bomb at Villa Park copped a UEFA charge that could have resulted in an away fan ban. Parkhead chiefs escaped with a fine and punters got the green light for Germany – and Engels insisted the Hoops will need everyone on board for their bid to make history.
He said: “That we will do everything to get a result there and that we also need them there, so it will be a lovely atmosphere and I hope we really can hear them like Wednesday. It was amazing so it really will help us also over there, and I think we all want the same thing, so we all are together there.”
Bayern have been unbeatable at home in the Champions League for FOUR years. But Engels is convinced Celts had them rattled in their late comeback push on Wednesday and can keep up the pressure in the return.
He said: “I think it shows the mentality of our team, that we never give up and that we always wanted to come back and what we did also, together with the Celtic crowd, was amazing. To have them here, it really helped us pushing forward. Then you see that we also create a lot of chances and that we can make it really difficult for them, so it's up to us to keep that courage of the last 20 or 30 minutes and go there with nothing to lose.
