Cardiff City have signed West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers.

The Bluebirds have signed the Saint Kitts and Nevis international.

The 30-year-old midfielder was a free agent after recently departing West Brom at the end of his contract.

With the above in mind, we asked some of our writers here at FLW for their thoughts on Sawyers becoming a Bluebird this summer.

Cardiff are not wasting any time this summer, and with Steve Morison looking to implement a more possession-based brand of football in the Welsh capital, Romaine Sawyers is as good as you are going to get on a free.

The St Kitts and Nevis international was arguably the classiest midfielder in the Championship, maybe apart from Kalvin Phillips, as West Bromwich Albion sealed automatic promotion from the second tier in 2019/20, and there were flashes of Sawyers’ brilliance in a loan spell at Stoke City last season.

With Tommy Doyle returning to Manchester City and joining Sheffield United on loan this summer, Sawyers would go a long way to replacing what he offered at the heart of midfield in the second half of last term.

This could go on to be one of the shrewdest pieces of business in the entire window.
