Argentina, Brazil, France: Who's won the most international trophies?

When it comes to World Cups, Brazil stand head and shoulders above the rest.

The South American nation – who’ve still never failed to qualify – have won sport’s biggest tournament a record five times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2002.

Brazil first won the World Cup way back in 1958 and they repeated the marvellous feat just four years later.

In 1970, a Selecao team led by the legendary Pele lifted the coveted Jules Rimet trophy for a third time, before making it number four in 1994.

But while Brazil are the undisputed kings of the World Cup, they’re now not the most successful nation of all in terms of overall trophy count.

That distinguished honour has been passed to their fierce continental rivals Argentina after they beat Italy last Wednesday to win the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions.

Lionel Messi‘s country have now won 21 major international trophies, including 15 (yes, FIFTEEN) Copa Americas and two World Cups.

Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico are the four nations who’ve reached double digits. Like Argentina, Uruguay have won the Copa America 15 times, which dwarfs Brazil’s tally of nine.

Germany and France are Europe’s most successful countries with eight trophies apiece, the same number as USA. Egypt and Italy sit on seven, while Japan and Cameroon both have six to their name.
