'Are they mad' Newcastle United fans react to Nottingham Forest's Lee Charnley appointment

Former Newcastle United chief executive Lee Charnley is set to return to the action of the Premier League with Nottingham Forest on a 'consultancy basis'. The Telegraph reported the 44-year-old, who left St James' Park last November, will join Forest to help out with the clubs ticketing and match day requirements.

During his time at Newcastle, Charnley was Mike Ashley's main man on Tyneside, tasked with overseeing day to day matters at the club. In total, Charnley was at Newcastle for a whopping 22 years across a number of different roles.

However, he is not remembered fondly at St James', with fans labelling the the former chief executive as Ashley's 'yes man'. Following the news of his new role plenty of Newcastle supporters have had their say on social media about Charnley being back in a Premier League job.

"Are they mad!!!"

"I don’t even hate him, hate the regime he was following to be there 22 years as a staff member. He was there before, during and after Mike Ashley’s era so good luck to Charnley."

"Pray for Forest."

"Interesting to see how he does without Ashley. That's the most generous I can come up with."

"Thoughts and prayers to Nottingham Forest at this difficult time."

"The future looks bleak for Forest."

"Must be his scintillating track record that attracted Forest?!"

"They're doomed."

"As a consultant won't Lee Charnley have to communicate?"

"I think #NFFC employing Lee Charnley is a master stroke. So long as you listen to his every word, then do the complete opposite #NUFC"

"Relegation assured. This excuse for a man should be nowhere any football team."

"They really must be desperate, has no-one done any research on him."
