Arbroath v Airdrie: Frizzell says playing catch-up can boost Diamonds' play-off push

Adam Frizzell is banking on Airdrie’s backlog turbo-charging their play-off tilt rather than thwarting it.

The Diamonds run out at Arbroath tonight in the first of four games in 11 days after progress in the cups has left them playing catch-up.

Victory will restore them to the top four while still having a game in hand on a Dunfermline side they’d dump out of it.

On the hectic schedule in store, skipper Frizzell said: “I like it – it gets the fitness levels up and gets you ready when those games come around again.

“The boys are all feeling good and we’ll be ready to go. When you get that backlog of two, three games in a week, it can only be good for you.

“We’ve had that a couple of times and then you tend to be flying after it. I’m hoping that is the case going into Arbroath and another massive one on Saturday.

“That is why you need a strong squad and we have that – you have boys coming off the bench with real quality.

“We couldn’t get anything at Ayr last Friday but it is going to bode well going into these last seven cup finals.

“We’ll be ready and everyone will be needed. So far everyone has stepped up so hopefully that continues.”

Eyeing a fourth campaign in a row in the play-offs, a season without them is a weird one for Frizzell who added: “You don’t want to be finishing at the end of May thinking, ‘What could we have done?’, we miss out by a game.

“It’s up to us. If we win at Arbroath, we’re back in that fourth position and then we host Morton who are looking to take it from us.

“It’s all in our hands if we want to go and grab it – because it is there for us.

“Something in the last few months we’ve shown is a different side to us – you need to roll the sleeves up.
