Arbroath are in Airdrie hot-shot's sights as he targets cup progress

Airdrie midfielder Justin Devenny has Championship side Arbroath in his sights as he aims to bang in the goals that take his side through to the Premier Sports Cup last 16.

The 18-year-old has fired in three goals in as many games in the competition so far, as the Diamonds head to Gayfield Park on Saturday for a game that could see them finish in second place, or even top the group.

Devenny sent Premiership side St Mirren spinning out of the competition as he swept in a 66th-minute opener at New Broomfield on Tuesday evening, and when young Kyan Gunn blasted in a second five minutes into stoppage time, it set the seal on a memorable evening for the League One title hopefuls.

Former Kilmarnock youth star Devenny has now targeted continuing his form and helping Rhys McCabe's side reach the knock-out stages.

He said: "We think we can go there and get a result, especially after this win.

"I'd love to get another goal against them, maybe even two! I'm not getting too far ahead of myself, but I want to keep on building on this start and, hopefully, more will come.

"We're confident that we can beat anybody who comes up against us, especially on our own patch.

"We use the whole pitch and pop the ball about. The way we kept possession is just perfect - we made St Mirren run, and then we found the right areas further up the pitch to get our goals.

"Everyone in our side is comfortable taking the ball under pressure. While we're doing that, our opponents are being dragged out of position, and that helps us to break the lines and attack them."

St Mirren were reduced to 10 men when Greg Kiltie was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Euan Deveney, and that helped Airdrie record another famous win in the competition.
