Appeal after teens brutally attack and rob two men outside Tesco

Police have issued an appeal after a pair of teenagers brutally attacked and robbed two men outside the same Tesco in Wigan. The first attack happened at around 1.40pm on Tuesday, March 29, police said. A 72-year-old man was withdrawing cash from an ATM outside the shop on Central Park Way.

Two teenage males - who were 'loitering' at the top of the steps that lead down to the River Douglas - launched an attack on the man as he took out his cash. They 'bundled him to the floor' before taking the money, officers said.

Both suspects ran down the steps and made off. They were both described as white - one had short, fair hair and was wearing a grey top/coat and the other had curly, fair hair and was wearing dark clothing.

The second attack happened at around 6.40pm on Tuesday, April 5. A 42-year-old man had been in the same Tesco when he walked away from the store and down the same steps. He passed two teenage males who were on the steps, believed to be the same suspects from the previous attack. As the man walked along the river and away from the town centre, he was punched and kicked to the floor.

The thugs robbed his wallet and fled the scene. Officers appealed for anyone with information or any dash-cam footage of the incidents to come forward in a post on the GMP Wigan West Facebook page.

"If anyone has any information about these crimes then contact GMP. If anyone thinks they saw these males or have any dashcam footage then please get in touch. Please do not name names in the general comments section. Please call 101", the post added.
