Antony scores on Man Utd debut v Arsenal - Cristiano Ronaldo reacts

Antony scored on his Manchester United debut against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag handed a start to the £86 million signing, who lit up the Eredivisie over the previous two seasons thanks to his skill, much to the delight of the home supporters inside Old Trafford.

And the South American lifted the roof off the Theatre of Dreams with a well-taken goal 10 minutes before half-time.

Seven places and six points separated the two Premier League giants at the start of the afternoon.

Arsenal won all five of their opening fixtures, while United were on a run of three straight wins after making an impressive recovery following back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.

Antony produced an exquisite piece of skill in the build-up to the game’s first big chance, culminating in Christian Eriksen narrowly missing the target with a back-post volley.

There was controversy moments later when Gabriel Martinelli had the ball in the back of the net at the opposite end of the pitch.

Following a lengthy VAR review, though, the goal was disallowed due to a push on Eriksen by Martin Odegaard in the build up.

And it was United who went into the half-time break 1-0 up thanks to their new Brazilian star, who tucked the ball into the bottom corner past Aaron Ramsdale.
