Antony has already told Manchester United what his tricks will bring to problem position

Antony is the latest of Erik ten Hag’s former Ajax protégés to get Manchester United fans talking this summer.

As Ten Hag gets underway with his rebuild at Old Trafford, he’s been linked with plenty of his former stars from his time in Amsterdam. The new United boss has already identified Frenkie de Jong and Jurrien Timber as targets, while other familiar names have been touted.

Among them is Brazilian star Antony. The 22-year-old is attracting plenty of interest across Europe after an impressive couple of seasons with Ajax, which have thrust him into the limelight.

And if reports elsewhere are to be believed, Ten Hag could be eyeing up a reunion with the forward. Goal Brasil have this week claimed Antony’s agents have flown to Europe in order to hold talks with United over a potential move.

With United in the market for new attacking options this summer, the Ajax star could fit the bill perfectly. Not only would he be able to solve an issue that has plagued the Reds on the right-hand side, but – according to the man himself – he won’t be put off by any criticism of his flamboyant style of play.

“There will always be people who think the tricks are really cool and people who disapprove of them,” he told De Telegraaf in February. “I think my actions are functional, because I want to show the opponent that I’m the boss. And often it results in a goal or an assist.

“So I don’t really care what others think. Regardless of the praise or the criticism, I keep my focus.”

Ten Hag managed to get the best out of Antony after signing him from Sao Paulo in 2020, and he could prove to be the ideal addition at his new club. United
