Antonio Valencia names eight Manchester United players in his teammates XI

Antonio Valencia was a popular figure at Manchester United during his decade-long stay at the club. The Ecuador winger arrived in 2009 from Wigan Athletic and went on to make more than 300 appearances for the club.

In his 10 years at Old Trafford he lifted two Premier League titles, the Europa League and an FA Cup and enjoyed a spell as captain towards the latter stages of his time at United. Now, the 37-year-old has named a starting XI comprised of the best teammates from his career in an interview with football magazine FourFourTwo.

Unsurprisingly a raft of former teammates from Old Trafford feature in the team.

No fewer than eight former or current United stars are included. He opts for David de Gea in goal with defensive trio Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra also making the cut. Three erstwhile United midfielders - Ryan Giggs, Nani and Paul Scholes - also earn selection while Valencia chose Wayne Rooney as one of his two strikers.

There are just three players included who do not have any United connections. Ulises de la Cruz was a long-time teammate of Valencia's at international level, while the late Christian Benitez was another Ecuador colleague of Valencia's.

The other player to be chosen by Valencia was Marcos Senna. The Spanish midfielder spent 11 years at Villarreal and Valencia was a teammate of his during three years there.

Antonio Valencia's perfect XI: David de Gea, Ulises de la Cruz, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Nani, Marcos Senna, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Christian Benitez, Wayne Rooney.
