Antonio Conte makes brutal top four claim in damning Tottenham transfer assessment
Antonio Conte has declared Tottenham have just a one percent chance of a top-four finish this term.
Spurs missed out on a number of January targets, with Adama Traore moving to Barcelona and Luis Diaz joining Liverpool, and their Italian boss has laid bare his frustrations after a difficult month.
Conte was able to make two additions to his squad, bringing in Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from former club Juventus.
But while Spurs made two January signings, they also saw four members of the first-team squad depart: Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso both left on loan, as did summer arrival Bryan Gil, while Dele Alli completed a permanent switch to Everton.
Now, after three defeats on the spin, the manager has suggested Spurs won't end the season in the top four as he voices his dissatisfaction.
"In the past I always said that I have to feel only one per cent the possibility to win - in this case the possibility to win the league," Conte told beIN SPORTS.
"For sure, here, the situation is strange because maybe I feel the one per cent possibility to have the ambition to finish fourth, because this situation is totally different.
"The level of this league is very high and there is not a lot of space in this moment for other teams than the top teams."
He suggested that, for the time being at least, Spurs are battling it out with their top four contenders but also need to be wary of sides below them who are looking to improve.
"It's important to not be scared about the situation now, but we need to have the will to fight this situation," Conte added.
"For me it's a totally different situation compared to my past."
