Antonio Conte confirms major Tottenham injury blow before Manchester United fixture

Antonio Conte has confirmed Tottenham will be without Brazil forward Richarlison for their Premier League game against Manchester United on Wednesday night. Richarlison, 25, has been ruled out with a calf problem which also requires the club's summer signing to be sent for an MRI scan.

Despite costing Tottenham around €58million, Richarlison has yet to score his first domestic goal for the club, but he has been a mainstay of their line-up alongside Son Heung-min and England captain Harry Kane. However, he will not feature against United as Conte also sweats on Sweden international Dejan Kulusevski (hamstring).

Conte provided an update on those players during his pre-match press conference. Richarlison will certainly not be fit enough for the Old Trafford showdown, while Kulusevski remains a doubt.

Conte, 53, said: "It will be very difficult to have some of them returning against Manchester United. The injury about Richarlison he is doing a scan, an MRI and then we'll see how long he needs to recover. For sure, against United, he's not available.

"No, absolutely not. I can confirm this. The player [Richarlison] is not risking to miss the World Cup."

Going into more detail about the 37-cap international, Conte added: "It's an injury but not serious. He has a problem in his calf, so I think he needs a bit of time to recover and then to be fit.

"I hope for him to play some other games with us before the World Cup but, for sure, the injury is not so serious. I'm happy for the player because to play in the World Cup is the dream for every single player and we're talking about a player that, when he goes to play, he gives you everything."
