Anti-doping test of 15-year-old Olympic skater Kamila Valieva is currently being investigated

An update has been provided on the legal issue that has postponed the 2022 Olympic team figure skating medal ceremony.

The International Olympic Committee and the International Skating Union initially confirmed the nature of the delay and revealed a situation involving the Russian Olympic Committee and the international doping authorities was the cause of the hold up.

In a new report from insidethegames, it has been alleged that an anti-doping test taken by Russian skater Kamila Valieva prior to the Games is being investigated.

The 15-year-old played a huge role in her nation’s success in the team event and topped the women’s singles standings in the short programme and free skating. Her performance helped the ROC claim their second gold medal of the tournament.

Valieva made her Olympics debut earlier this week and wowed the world with her segment in the team event — performing a beautiful routine to In Memoriam by Kirill Richter in memory of her grandmother.

The young star made headlines as she became the first woman in history to land a quadruple jump on the Olympic stage, which she executed not once, but twice.

However, her historic achievement and ROC’s gold medal is currently under question amid these ongoing investigations.

The Independent Testing Agency has not commented on the exact issue found with Valieva’s drug test. However, should she be found guilty of an anti-doping violation, she cannot be officially identified.

According to the rules of the World Anti-Doping Code, Valieva is labelled a ‘Protected Person’ due to being under the age of 16. This means if she is sanctioned, any penalties received will likely be a lot less severe than if she was not a minor.
