Anthony Joshua told Tyson Fury fight date 'doesn't make sense'

Leading boxing journalist Gareth A Davies has advised Anthony Joshua that it would be unwise to accept a fight against Tyson Fury following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last month.

Talks regarding a potential bout appear to be hanging by a thread currently, with Joshua having missed yesterday's ultimatum from Fury to accept the WBC champion's terms. Joshua was thought to want a fight to take place on December 17th, while Fury has suggested either November 26th or December 3rd for their fight, with Old Trafford supposedly in the running to host a potential fight.

Now, one key voice in the boxing world has suggested that a fight against the self-styled Gypsy King would not be a wise move for Joshua, with a fight against a lower ranked boxer suggested by Davies as a means for 'AJ' to rebuild his confidence. Joshua has only won one of his last four fights having been unbeaten in his first 22 bouts.

“It doesn’t make sense. It’s an endgame fight for him to face Fury in December, even if Fury agrees to December 17th,” Davies told Pro Boxing Fans.

“It doesn’t make sense. He [Joshua] needs to rebuild and go and knock out a couple of people, have a couple of good performances, fight Dillian Whyte and fight Deontay Wilder, maybe.

“The Fury fight will always be there. There’s not enough time for him [Joshua] to get ready. It’s very unwise to take it now because if he did lose or did get knocked out, it’s very difficult to see where he goes from there.
