Anthony Joshua next fight: 6ft 3in American heavyweight claims 'talks' are underway

Anthony Joshua is “in talks” to face Andy Ruiz Jr‘s former opponent Chris Arreola in December on his fighting return.

The Brit, 33, is currently in the process of rebuilding his career after coming off his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia back in August.

Yet despite his poor bargaining position, AJ was surprisingly offered the chance to fight Tyson Fury in an all-British clash on December 3.

However, those negotiations fell through a few weeks before the proposed date.

Fury is now expected to face Derek Chisora for a third time instead at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Meanwhile, Arreola, who lost to Ruiz by unanimous decision in May 2021, has claimed his team have been contacted by Joshua's representatives ahead of a potential clash.

Speaking to FightHype, the American heavyweight, 41, said: "There are talks and they are trying to figure out if something happen. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't matter to me. 

"I'm fighting regardless. I'm fighting in December. I'm getting my butt back in the ring.

"I was supposed to fight in September. I was supposed to fight in May. Everything keeps getting pushed back.

"It's part of boxing. I'm okay with that, but I need to fight this year. It's either you, Joshua or someone else. 

"Whoever it is, they're going to have a nightmare that day."

Standing 6 ft, 3 in tall, Arreola has a solid record of 38 wins, one draw, seven defeats and two no-contests - with one of those coming after he failed a drugs test.
