Anthony Elanga sets simple next Manchester United target after Sweden debut

Anthony Elanga has set himself a simple next target at Manchester United after making his debut for Sweden on Thursday night. The 19-year-old entered the fray in Stockholm for the final five minutes of a hugely-important World Cup win over Czech Republic.

Sweden and Elanga now move onto Poland and what is a straight shootout to reach the 2022 finals in Qatar. The youngster's latest achievement comes on the back of a breakthrough season at Old Trafford.

While it was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who handed Elanga a first senior appearance for United last season, game-time has become more regular since Ralf Rangnick stepped into the breach. That trust has resulted in eight goals from 20 games in all competitions for the academy graduate.

Elanga told United's official website media: "A lot of players are consistent and that's something I want to be, as well. [I want to be] consistent and always be disciplined, make sure that I put the work in and when I get the opportunity in the game, take it."

On the pathway to the first-team, he added: "In the academy days you would get an opportunity to train with the first-team and see how it is, see the intensity. When you are a young lad, doing that is important because then you can go back to the Academy, do what you have learnt from the first-team and put it into practice.

"That's why I feel comfortable [on the pitch] because I get the likes of Bruno [Fernandes] speaking to me every day and on the pitch, as well, which helps to calm me down and stay relaxed when I have the ball."
