Anthony Elanga almost breaks world record as he prepares for Manchester United return

Anthony Elanga was on the verge of breaking a world record as he continues his preparations for the new season.

The forward is set to return to training with his Manchester United teammates soon. Having been involved in the recent round of international fixtures with Sweden, Elanga will likely get his first taste of life under Erik ten Hag back at Carrington next week.

The 20-year-old isn’t wasting any time ahead of his return to training. The academy graduate has been busy working on his fitness this summer, with his impressive results being showcased on social media.

In a video shared on United’s TikTok account, Elanga is seen taking on some daunting box jumps. Elanga produces the sort of leap that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo would be jealous of.

The young forward clears the height set for him, with a caption revealing the jump to be a remarkable 63 inches – just over five feet. Elanga was clearly delighted as he celebrated his efforts, and with good reason.

The height cleared by Elanga is only four inches off the world record set by American personal trainer Chris Spell last year. In fact, Elanga’s effort would have left him just two inches off the previous record, set by Brett Williams in 2019.

Though he might not have the world record to claim, Elanga is nevertheless looking in great shape ahead of his return to training. He’ll no doubt be looking to kick on under Ten Hag next season following what was a breakthrough campaign in 2021/22.
