Anthony Daly: Tipp's transition period will be a short one

Allianz League Sunday pundit Anthony Daly believes Tipperary's transition period can be smooth enough to ensure that they prove a force in 2023.

Daly was speaking after Saturday night’s 20-point destruction of Laois and he feels that the early signs point towards a team that have a lot of work done.

"Liam [Cahill] will be happy, I’d say they have a fair body of work in," he said.

"Ronan Maher back at centre-back and scoring, Bryan O’Mara not going anywhere this year.

"A lot of people are saying Tipp are in transition but they transition fairly quickly.

"A certain Patrick 'Bonner’ Maher was almost man of the match at full-forward."

The 2-32 conceded by Laois – with 18 points chalked up in reply – is an early ominous sign for the O’Moore County.

It was similar for Westmeath who lost to Clare 4-27 to 0-14 and Daly feels those two sides in particular could be in for a long league campaign.

He has more hope for Antrim though who provided Kilkenny with a tough outing in Corrigan Park on Saturday.

"It will be a tough league for Laois probably and Westmeath, especially in the away games," he said. "Antrim in Corrigan might pull off a result or two but you’d worry for the other two, especially in the away games."

"I think Laois and Westmeath might struggle but I think these boys [Antrim] are capable of getting a score or two," he added.
