‘Another quality addition’, ‘Wish it was permanent’ – These Sunderland fans react to latest confirmed transfer agreement

Sunderland have not been messing around in the January transfer window in a bid to bolster their squad for the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.

The fixtures are set to come thick and fast for the Black Cats when the month is over and Lee Johnson has been strengthening different areas to help cope.

Trai Hume, Danny Batth and Patrick Roberts had all already arrived at the Stadium of Light this month and they’ve been joined by Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Clarke.

The 21-year-old winger has signed on a deal from Spurs until the end of the current campaign in what is the fourth loan spell of his career so far.

A player with six caps for England’s under-20 squad, Clarke made the move to the London club from Leeds United in 2019 for a fee of around £10 million, with the forward making an ultimately unsuccessful loan return to the Yorkshire side immediately after the deal was done.

QPR took Clarke for the second half of the 2019-20 season but he only featured six times, and a stint at Stoke City last season saw him go 14 matches without scoring.

Clarke is yet to make his Premier League debut for Tottenham although he has featured three times in European competition in the last two seasons but now he’s set to continue his development on Wearside – here’s how Sunderland fans have reacted to the deal.

Our recruitment so far this window has been top class. We are Defoe and a sturdy CM away from it being the best window we’ve had in years… #SAFC https://t.co/SBgBHp8Wcc

Get a Central Midfielder and JD in and it's been a perfect window. https://t.co/gDU0r6wPqY
